Reuth short listed for JVN volunteer Awards

We are very excited and proud to announce that Ann Rau Dawes has been short listed for JVN Volunteer Awards 2016 under the category of Volunteering Contribution to Charities Supporting Causes in Israel.

There were numerous applicants in this category and Ann is one of the 3 shortlisted people. The winner will be announces on 1st November.

Ann has been an enthusiastic supporter of British Friends of Reuth for since 2009. She has a very longstanding relationship with Reuth in Israel, as her aunt Gerda Ochs was one of the founders of the organisation in 1937.   Here, in England, her cousin was the secretary of the pre-cursor of The British Friends of Reuth and one of her brothers was on the committee.

From her professional life as a manager in the probation service she has brought expertise of leadership, management and enthusiasm to the charity. Ann also holds a BA and Masters in the History of Art. She is an active member of New London Synagogue and is working on the second Refugees Voices project.

Ann always plays a very hands on role in the charity.  She has actively focused on events in order to spread the word about Reuth, and to raise funds for the Reuth Medical Centre.

Over the last 6 years, Ann has played a key part in all of the main fundraising events that have been run in the UK - a concert, 2 film events, a cabaret evening, 4 receptions including at the residences of the Chief Rabbi and the Israeli Ambassador . Most recently she also played a key role in the most recent very successful event in June 2016 in central London. She has also hosted  parlour events in her own home to introduce new people and to raise the profile of the charity.

Ann has been the head of the events committee on several occasions, bringing her experience, enthusiasm, organisational and people skills to ensure they were successful both in terms of guests’ experience as well as funds raised. She is particularly valued for her attention to detail.  Also she has a focus on developing relationship between the charity and volunteers, and working and developing a warm relationship with JVN.

As well as events, Ann has been involved in many other aspects of the charity – identifying and developing potential donors, launching new projects with schools, newsletters and appeals.

She has invested a lot of her personal time to supporting the charity’s work in the UK, and visited the Reuth Hospital in Tel Aviv on many occasions.

"Ann has taken on the role of leader in her family's long tradition of involvement in and support of Reuth, but more than that, she is building up a new generation of younger people who follow her dynamic example of hard work, initiative and dedication in helping those indigent, elderly, and ill so in need of Reuth’s services in Israel".” Miriam Frankel Deputy Executive Director and Director of development at Reuth.

The British Friends of Reuth will continue to be an integral part of Ann’s life and she will continue to help the charity grow from strength to strength.
