Kerem School wins the Great British Sunflower Race

The British Friends of Reuth, supporting Reuth Medical Center in Israel, launched their first Tu B'shvat inter schools competition "Tu B'shvat The Great Sunflower Race" in February 2012. The aim was to grow the tallest sunflower as part of celebrating Tu B’Shvat, as well as supporting gardening therapy at Reuth Medical Center. This project is running for the third year, this time 16 primary schools nationwide participated and over 650 pupils with the Jewish News as a media partner.

The sunflowers were measured and prizes awarded to the three children with the tallest flowers as follows

Kerem School                                      183cm              1st Prize £100.00 Toys R Us voucher

Michael Sobell Sinai School                178 cm            2nd Prize £50 Toys R Us voucher

Simon Marks Jewish Primary School  142 cm             3rd Prize £25 Toys R Us voucher

This project has raised over £1000, and we are delighted to present the prize to the winning pupil at Kerem School as well as certificates for all the children who took part.

"The Great Sunflower Race was a great opportunity to support a worthy cause, whilst providing a fantastic learning opportunity for our son." said his proud parents.

British Friends of Reuth would like to thank all of the schools that took part, and for all their support for this project and for the funds raised for the Reuth Medical Center. The Sunflower Competition will be back next year.
