Help make a difference to our patients
When Honey Maor gave birth to her daughter she was elated. A
few hours later she tried to get up and discovered she was paralysed in both legs. “All I could think of was, I am in a
nightmare, I may never walk again”, remembers Honey
Finding a hospital willing to admit Honey and her new-born baby had never been done before in Israel. When no one else was willing, Reuth Medical Centre took her in with open arms.
"We were excited about admitting Honey with her baby. You have to teach a baby how to walk, now, we had to teach the mother how to walk and take care of her baby” remembers Najeeb Haddad – Head nurse in the Reuth Rehabilitation ward.
“When
I arrived on a stretcher, the entire staff stood in a long line in the corridor
waiting for me as if I was the Queen of England. They had prepared a private
room for me with a cot and toys for the baby”, recalls Honey
“The special thing about Reuth is the dedicated personnel, who adapt to
the needs and the medical condition of every patient, we don’t give up on
anyone” Dr Dov Albukrek – Director of Reuth Medical Centre
Her 4 month rehabilitation journey began on both her
physical and mental wellbeing. When she eventually left it was with mixed
feelings, “On the one hand I wanted to resume my life; on the other I felt I was leaving a family.”
“If anyone had told me there was a place like Reuth, I wouldn’t have believed it. I would have thought they were exaggerating, because it’s a utopia” – Honey Maor
